Mrs Augusta Llagostena-bassi-tinaagostena Bassi was born in Milan on 2nd June 1926 and died in Rome on 4th March 2008.
She graduated in Law at the University of Genoa with Prof. Giuliano Vassalli. She was assistant of Criminal Law at the University of Genoa from 1966 to 1970 and was in charge of Maritime Law at the University of Parma from 1971 to 1972.
From 1973 to 1975, she worked at the Office of the Minister at the Ministry of Justice, Office Reform. She was delegated to the World Conference for the Peace of Prague in 1983; in the same year, she also acted as an observer in a delegation at the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions in Turkey,  which dealt with the process against trade unionists; she founded and was president of the CNG (Coordinamento Nazionale Giuriste); she took part at the UN Observatory for the protection of Human Rights; she was founder and member of the Scientific Committee of the Foundation Cesar Studies of Insurance and Research.
She was elected as Deputy in the XII legislature and was a member of the House Judiciary Committee and of the Board of Authorisations to Proceed. Moreover, she was coadjutrix for the Act Against Sexual Violence passed by the Italian Parliament in February 1996. From 1994 to 1995, she was President of the National Commission for Equality and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women, established at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Regarding gender equality, she was a member of the Committee at the European Union.
She was a member of the Italian delegation at the UN World Conference on Population and Development (Cairo, 1994). She was the Head of Delegation of Italy throughout the preparatory works for the Fourth UN World Conference on Women, held in Beijing in September 1995. She was a member of the Italian delegation at the World Conference of Families (Berlin, 1995) . Furthurmore, regarding women’s issues, she founded “Telefono Rosa“, “Differenza Donna“, “Centro contro la violenza” in Rome. She founded and directed “Nè più nè meno“, periodical of the National Commission for Equality and Equal Opportunities between Men and Women, published by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers; she founded and was a member of the Board of the “Difesa penale” review; she contributed some articles to legal journals, such as “Archivio giuridico della circolazione stradale e dei sinistri” and “Responsabilità civile e previdenza“.
She was co-director of the legal book series “La responsabilità civile“. She was author of several publications, such as: “La depenalizzazione“, “La responsabilità, guida giurisprudenziale“, “La R.C. per la circolazione dei veicoli a motore“, “La liquidazione del danno“, published by Giuffrè; “La legge è con noi” (items: Assicurazioni, circolazione stradale, arti e professioni, navigazione da diporto, Costituzione); “Diritto e pratica del sinistro stradale”. e wrote the second edition of “Pagine rosa“, a guide to women’s rights (items: violenza, maltrattamenti ed abusi, accesso alla giustizia e assistenza legale); the “Codice Donna” (items: norme penali, codice penale e codice di procedura penale), both published by the National Commission for Equality. She was author of: “L’avvocato delle donne – dodici storie di ordinaria violenza“, published by Mondadori Editore; “Così è deciso” a collection of judgments of the TV show “Forum”, published by Sperling & Kupfer Editori; “Il manuale dei diritti e doveri del giovane cittadino“, Children’s Divisio, Mondadori Editore.
From 1998 to 2008, the lawyer Lagostena Bassi joined, in the TV show “Forum“, the judge Santi Licheri in the resolution of legal issues.
